Lando Alliance Mission

Lando Alliance is a U.S. 501(c)(3) nonprofit that supports free and open-source developer tools and educational resources for the web development community. We maintain Lando, a free, open-source, cross-platform development and DevOps tool, and publish documentation, examples, recipes, training, events, and community support that help people learn, build, maintain, and contribute to modern web software.

Mission

Our mission is to lower the barrier to learning, building, maintaining, and contributing to modern web software through free open-source tools, educational materials, community events, and public support channels.

Public Benefit

Lando Alliance serves developers, students, nonprofit technologists, volunteers, small organizations, public-interest teams, and open-source contributors who need reliable development and DevOps tools without proprietary licensing costs or unnecessary technical barriers.

By keeping Lando and its supporting resources free and open, we help more people participate in modern web development, maintain community projects, contribute to open-source software, and support the organizations and causes they serve.

Programs

  • Free and open-source software maintenance for Lando and related tools.
  • Public documentation, examples, recipes, guides, and tutorials.
  • Free trainings, webinars, and community events.
  • Free Slack/community support and public GitHub issue triage.
  • Open-source contributor support and project stewardship.

Free and Open Access

Lando, our docs, examples, community events, and support channels are free or publicly accessible. Access is not limited by payment, donor status, membership, sponsorship, or commercial relationship.

Donations and sponsorships help sustain the work, but they do not gate access to the software, docs, events, or public support channels.

Impact

Lando is used by approximately 10,000 developers per month, primarily in the PHP and web development ecosystem. The project helps individuals and teams create consistent development environments, reduce setup time, share project knowledge, and keep more web projects maintainable.

Governance

Lando Alliance is overseen by a board responsible for stewarding the nonprofit mission and the long-term health of the project.

  • Mike Pirog: Board member helping steward Lando Alliance's nonprofit mission, open-source project direction, and community programs.
  • Alec Reynolds: Board member helping steward Lando Alliance's governance, public-benefit priorities, and community accountability.
  • Aaron Feledy: Board member helping steward Lando Alliance's nonprofit operations, open-source sustainability, and contributor/community support.

Donations help sustain the free software, documentation, community events, and support channels that Lando Alliance provides. Donations are processed through GitHub Sponsors.
